Slava Lawson
Slava is an artist from Edinburgh, Scotland, who grew up with a passion for drawing, painting and making.
She moved to Dundee to study general foundation art in 2009, at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (with Honours) in Animation, in 2013. Slava went on to volunteer as a designer in residence, and graduate with a Masters degree (also in Animation) in 2015, from the same institution.
Slava's career in animation began in London in 2016 at King Bee Animation, working on concept art and character design. But, she quickly moved back to Dundee to work at Outplay Entertainment, animating characters for casual mobile games. After almost 6 years, and now accustomed to working remotely from home, Slava started working for London based company DREST, helping them create a mobile fashion styling game.
Around this time Slava realised that she needed to spread her creative wings. Her love of rock climbing had already introduced her to Kalymnos, in Greece in 2017, and she felt a special connection with this part of the world. She applied for an artist residency in Heraklion in Crete, and spent 6 weeks with the Lakkos Project, focussing on nature taking over the manmade structures in the oldest part of the city.
From then on, Slava's life became a balancing act between work, travel and art. Kalymnos became a regular destinaton, thanks to her partner's seasonal work as a climbing photographer, and her portfolio of Greek landscapes grew. She started to print postcards of her work, and sold them to friends who also loved Kalymnos, and her work was chosen to be part of the official Kalymnos Climbing Guidebook (2025).
Slava has exhibited and taken part in markets both in Scotland and in Greece. She is part of the Dundee Art Society, Colony of Artists Festival in Edinburgh and Kalymnos Creative People.
