Telendos Princess
There once was a princess of Telendos and prince of Kalymnos who were in love, but they were forbidden from marrying because their families were at war (sound familiar?). The princess's father told the prince that he could have his daughter's hand when he walked across the water from one island to the other carrying a lit candle. Unable to perform the miracle, the prince disappeared, and the princess never saw him again. She was so grief- stricken that she lay down to sleep and turned to stone, so that she might await her prince, and his miracle for eternity... If you look closely at the shape of Telendos now, you can still make out the shape of the sleeping princess!
Perhaps my interpretation of the story is not the traditional one! In my defence, all cats believe that they are royalty!
